Get Fresh 4 School

Get Fresh

Get Fresh 4 School is a community-based initiative introduced in 2012 by Thomas Peterlik and Jonathan Rapp of OTTO/River Tavern to improve our Region 4 school food program.

Through Get Fresh 4 School, the community can help Region 4 raise funds for the district to:

  • Purchase healthier locally sourced foods
  • Offer new training for cafeteria staff
  • Purchase new cooking equipment for cooking fresh meals
  • Create an online resource and communication platform for parents and students to learn about the school food nutrition and menus
  • Develop a vocational cooking program
  • Offer scholarships
  • Aid in curriculum development that will help children learn lifelong healthy eating habits
Get Fresh 4 School was established in response to Michelle Obama’s Chefs Move to Schools campaign, which encourages schools and local chefs to partner and help promote healthier school food choices. Thomas Peterlik and Jonathan Rapp were among the 500 chefs around the country invited to the White House in June of 2010 to meet the First Lady and launch Chefs Move to Schools.
